Term 1 Week 3
So, here's my post about literature. Mr  Chua taught us about a new play by Shakespeare. It was Merchant Of Venice. He gave us an assignment. Our homework is to write about 4 characters' traits and explain in the play.  He told us about the summary of the play.

First, there was a man called Bossanio who is in love with Portia, but she was not fond of him as he was poor. So, in order to court Portia, Bossanio borrowed money from his best friend, Antonio, who is a merchant from Venice. Antonio did not have any money at that time as he had invested all his money on buying goods. He had sent his ships to other countries to sell his goods. So, he borrowed money from a rich jew, Shylock.

As Antonio was a Christian, and Shylock a jew, they hated each other very much. So they made an agreement. Shylock would lend Antonio the money on one condition; If Antonio failed to return him his money, Shylock would cut 1 pound of flesh from Antonio. However, he did not have to worry about returning the money that he owe, as his ships would be returning with his profit. Antonio handed the money over to Bossanio.

Then, Bossanio went to court Portia. After a few attempts, he finally won her heart.
On his wedding day, he recieved bad news from a messenger. It was that Antonio ships had sunk and had no money to return Shylock. So Shylock has the permission to cut 1 pound of flesh from Antonio. But they have to ask the permission from the judge from the supreme court. When Bossanio heard the news, he immediately rushed to the Court, leaving Portia behind.

Portia had to help Antonia as he was Bossanio's best friend. She disguised as a male lawyer. We learned about act 4, scene 1.

Here's the website to the play.
Mr Chua then brought us to a corner outside class near the staff room to perform the act. I think that Antonio and Bossanio are really good friends.  Bossanio and Portia tried their best to save Antonio from the evil Jew, Shylock. Okay, I shall end my post here.

Term 1 Week 1

Here to post about the very first lesson of lit. Mr Chua gave us ice-cream sticks to each of us. He told us to write our names on each of the stick. I thought of decorating it, but there isn't time. After that Mr Chua told us to do a cinquain. I was thinking, 'What is a Cinquain?' I went to wikipedia to find the definition. I found out that cinquain is the general term applied to poetic forms using a 5-line pattern. There are specific forms within that category that are defined by specific rules and guidelines. So we did a cinquain in class.
This was what we wrote:
2 Dynamic
Noisy         Lively
Clowning    Entertaining   Smiling
My class is crazy.
Home
Mr Chua gave us a homework about cinquain. We have to create two cinquains on our own. It was evergreen and my name.
I wrote:
Evergreen
Enthuastic       Green
Learning    thinking    caring
Evergreen has students that are willing to learn.
School

Ebony(My name):
Kind      Artistic
Learning  Laughing  Enjoying
I am a person that perservere
Me
Well, I'm sure that mine cinquains was one of the worst. I think that cinqauins is used for poets to plan their poetry. Ending my post here.

Term 1 Week 2
Here to post about my reflection of literature lesson yesterday. Mr Chua was absent yesterday. A relieve teacher came in and took the class. I forgotten her name, pardon me. She taught us what Shakespeare plays we were going to cover this year.

They were Macbeth, Romeo & Juliet, Merchant of Venice and Midsummer Night's Dream. She told us about the summary of Macbeth's story. It was about Macbeth and his friend Banquo who came back from war and met the three witches.

The three witches told him that he would rule the throne. Unfortunately, they said that Banquo's children would succeed MacBeth's throne.MacBeth was so obsessed by the witches' prophecy, that he murdered Banquo, the King and anybody that dared to obstruct his way. The relieve teacher also taught us about the script of Act 1, Scene 1:Thunder and lightning. Enter three Witches.
Here it goes:
First witch: Where shall we meet again?
In thunder, lightning or in rain?
Second Witch: When the hurlyburly's done,
When the battle's lost and won.
Third witch: That will be ere the set of sun.
First witch: Where the place?
Second Witch: Upon the heath.
Third Witch: There to meet Macbeth.
First Witch: I come, Graymalkin.
Second Witch: Paddock calls.
Third Witch: Anon!
All: Fair is foul, and foul is fair:
Hover through the fog and filthy air.

They vanished afterwards. The relieve teacher gave us a homework. She told us to draw the scene where the witches were. I think that Macbeth is a  power- hungry person. He nelieved what the witches had told him about the prophecy and  he wanted the throne for himself and killed the people who would succeed his throne.  I think that the witches wanted to cause more war and destruction to the world as they are  not earthly beings. Hmm, lots of ideas are swirling in my head now. I shall end my post here.
