So, here's my post about literature. Mr Chua taught us about a new play by Shakespeare. It was Merchant Of Venice. He gave us an assignment. Our homework is to write about 4 characters' traits and explain in the play. He told us about the summary of the play.
First, there was a man called Bossanio who is in love with Portia, but she was not fond of him as he was poor. So, in order to court Portia, Bossanio borrowed money from his best friend, Antonio, who is a merchant from Venice. Antonio did not have any money at that time as he had invested all his money on buying goods. He had sent his ships to other countries to sell his goods. So, he borrowed money from a rich jew, Shylock.
As Antonio was a Christian, and Shylock a jew, they hated each other very much. So they made an agreement. Shylock would lend Antonio the money on one condition; If Antonio failed to return him his money, Shylock would cut 1 pound of flesh from Antonio. However, he did not have to worry about returning the money that he owe, as his ships would be returning with his profit. Antonio handed the money over to Bossanio.
Then, Bossanio went to court Portia. After a few attempts, he finally won her heart.
On his wedding day, he recieved bad news from a messenger. It was that Antonio ships had sunk and had no money to return Shylock. So Shylock has the permission to cut 1 pound of flesh from Antonio. But they have to ask the permission from the judge from the supreme court. When Bossanio heard the news, he immediately rushed to the Court, leaving Portia behind.
Portia had to help Antonia as he was Bossanio's best friend. She disguised as a male lawyer. We learned about act 4, scene 1.

Here's the website to the play.
Mr Chua then brought us to a corner outside class near the staff room to perform the act. I think that Antonio and Bossanio are really good friends. Bossanio and Portia tried their best to save Antonio from the evil Jew, Shylock. Okay, I shall end my post here.
